HOSPICE 2017

Last week, I got a very important question from a friend.
"Are you becoming more an adoption organisation now? I thought you didn't want it that way!"

I love this friend, since she dares to ask me honest questions.

It could seem like we are becoming more an adoption organisation, since lately we have helped many dogs finding wonderful homes in Sweden.
AWL will help those dogs that comes in our way, on our path to our next mission/project, a Hospice in Toscany.

We are working and planing behind the curtains on our new Hospice 2017. Nothing can keep me away from that goal, together with some great Animal Friends.
However,  during our planning moments, we cannot stop helping animals that are trapped in cages for years, or found on the streets in bad shapes. Many fantastic families are waiting to open their doors for them. Why not help souls to happiness while planning a bigger cause!

The Hospice is my life, my love, my goal and together we can create a fantastic environment for those poor soles that are trapped forever in cages, that no ones sees. Seniors, that some people doesn't think have any value. For them to have their own bedroom, a garden to spend relaxing time, and healthy food. But most important, someone that will love them back as much as they love us.

When its time for the animals to leave Mother Earth, to help them cross the bridge to the other side --together with a great veterinarian team.

Mio My Mio Searching for a Home

 Napolitano, Italy. Mio can travel to Sweden or Germany....well...to the perfect home for him.

He is the sweetest thing, playful and happy. Loves people, other dogs and children. Preferable little older children since he is still a puppy.

Mio is 7 months old and his weight is 15 kg

He was left by his owner when they moved!!! Thanks to one wonderful animal friend he is safe but seeking his own home.

Germany and Sweden Rescue Mission

Arischa and Snuffle were staying in my house for a couple of days here in southern Germany. I like to have new rescue dogs staying at my house since I can read them and get to know them. It has happened that people have adopted dogs and then blamed something on the dog that was not true. In this case I can document everything. Of course, some things can change at the new owner that didn't happen here, due to different kind of energies or not well-behaved children ;-)

We the flew Stuttgart, Germany to Stockholm, Sweden to meet the two new moms. Arichas new mom I had met earlier 20 years ago when I worked with her horse(s) She also volunteer for Swedish organisation that help Spanish dogs (she adopted from there too, great dogs)

Sweet Eva came and had brought a blanket for Snuffle since it was cold- They bonded directly. Snuffle had been bought as a small puppy, the owner had got tired and abandon him. Snuffle was like a happy flying squirrel. Me and my children loved him. We were so happy Eva had adopted him, or we would have kept him.....#14 dogs I am trying to cut down on the amount of rescue dogs.

I am so touched and thankful Eva for the handmade gift you made for me. It has a special place in my home. Thank you !

Our Wonderful Veterinarian

This trip would be so short that I had to cut down on my 'want to visit' list. I always love to go and see 'our' veterinarian since 2008 Dr Damiani. 

He is a very busy man with his own clinic and working on American base.

I had to go to the American base to pick up some things. Who is not coming walking if not Dr. Damiani. We both got so happy to see each other if only for 3 minutes.

Amazingly, he had 'our' AWL t shirt under his vet scrubs. How awesome was that!

The year 2009We found her locked into a construction site. There were people but no one gave her food. I put on my black tights and black hood and got her out. She pooped grass.
I took her to a veterinarian who screamed that we had to euthanize this dog. It was probably full of diseases!
I don't keep animals alive only to have them suffering, but I know that sometimes we have a tendency to look too much with our eyes.
The vet then said, this dog would cost a lot of money medical wise. It was cheaper to euthanize the dog.
I refused. My mind and heart said something else.
We changed veterinarian. Tests were being made...no diseases!
I found a family, a fantastic family.
They never had any excuses to leave her behind even if they moved around the world.
No excuse even when they got a child.

Still today, I get pictures of Brandy, she is aging full of love.

CONTRACT -IS TO FOLLOW RULES

I've said all along, AWL is not an adoption agency. We are a rescue organization. But, because of our rescues, we end up in the mode of seeking qualified, quality homes for them when they are ready.

We have a lifelong responsibility to these dogs/cats, both a legal responsibility but more importantly an ethical and moral responsibility. When adopting a dog (or cat) via AWL we insist that you sign a contract after some time together with your knew friend. The contract demands that AWL must be informed and given FIRST CHANCE to take the animal back if you find you can't/don't want to keep your new family member. AWL must be part of any re-homing, because whomever you think you have found to take him/her from you MUST meet our screening and background requirements. The same goes for euthanization. We state clearly that any behavior problems you are having with the animal, we will work with you to resolve the problem(s)... but we can't do that without your involvement and contacting us. And most importantly, without you meeting YOUR contractual obligations as stipulated in the contract YOU signed when you committed to your adopted dog or cat.

Bluntly put, if YOU can't live with your obligations YOU will agreed to in the adoption contract, then DON'T ADOPT AN ANIMAL FROM AWL. We WILL bring violations of the terms of the contract to the attention of appropriate legal authorities and your chain of command.

SUNNY UPDATE

Like we wrote earlier our Hospice client Sunny is not doing so well. He is not suffering or in pain. Many times I believe we humans suffer more when we see the one we love getting old. Animals or Humans, it is painful.  Cher his partner in the shelter for over 13 years never leaves his side. Plenty of kisses every day. It is so touching to watch.

Tonia his (their) guardian mom comes extra many times to the hospice to check on him. And today our veterinarian will stop by for a visit.

He has a mitral endocardiosis so he needs several medicines for his heart (Cardisure and Nelio) and an antibiotic for his gingivitis (Stomorgyl) Sunny also got arthritis to all his four legs.

This little fellow was closed in a cage for 2 years, isolated. A Swedish volunteer came down to help us with our projects. One was to go to this shelter with donations (food)
Ulla fell in love and we started the adoption process. Oh my what a journey but worth every minute.

VALENTINE EVERY DAY?

VALENTINE is coming up, only 3 days left. But when we think about it, everyday is Valentine together with our dogs.

KINOS NEW HOME in GERMANY

 We are so happy that Kino the Husky is now in his new home together with his American family here in Germany. WE wish him all our best together with mom, dad and cat.

 We were worried that Kino would chase the cat but it showed us how wrong we humans can be in our "narrow mind thinking".
The cat chased Kino who was terrified. Sorry Kino we cannot help laughing.

OUR LOVES SECOND CHANCE

Let me tell you humans something.

I am LOVE, and I am a Senior dog at the Hospice Casa dell"Amore. I was someones pet for 10 years. For 10 long years did I love them unconditional, I followed and was loyal. Then one day, my family drove me to a horrible place, with a lot of strangers, diseases and noise from hundreds of other dogs. They left without saying anything, the last thing I saw were their backs.

Some would say that it would have been best for me to be put down to sleep. At that time I got depressed and sick. Then, one day some Angels came and drove me to this house without cages, without a lot of noise and full of love. Slowly I came out of my depression and started to trust you humans again, thanks to all the volunteers.

If I can do it, you can do it. Never lose faith in love.

I want to thank you ALL people that help keep the Hospice going. You are making a huge difference, You are giving life back, and gives inspiration to many other people.
