Our Little Joey

 Joey was a very happy stray down in south Italy for many years. At first he didn't want to be someones pet. He loved his freedom and meeting the people that fed him, petted him and then, let him go.
But becoming a Senior on the streets is not easy, especially when the winters cold night making them sicker. WE decided that Joey should have a home.

Joey came to me in my Senior Sanctuary home among 14 other dogs, I think one year ago. He was going to be spayed. I had a check up on him and he had artros on his back spines and on top of everything, leischmania. No one wanted to adopt a Senior with Leischmania. I don't have any problems with that since we have had many dogs and it can be  kept under control if caught in right time.
Ironic, it was not the leischmania that would end his life. He got aggressive cancer that are spreading in his body like fire.

I was crying, since his mind is still very sharp but his body is breaking down.

 Olivia and I took him to the veterinarian and I could see in Dr Hummels eyes that it was not much hope. 5-7 days. We got medicine, painkiller and other things that will help ease some. But when Joey wants to, Dr Hummel will come home and help him over to the other side.

Joey has his bed infront of the fireplace, and it is pate' three times a day. He eats and is very happy and we are happy and thankful for each day we get together with him.

JOEY JO JO

is a wonderful happy senior that are starting to enjoy home life. He was a happy street dog that loved to greet people and walk around getting food from resturants. Cold and hard life starting to wear on his body. So we decided he had to become a 'home' boy.

He is adorable and loves to lay outside the whole days. Great with other dogs and children.

Senior Joe

Joe is a senior stray and he has no mom or dad that tells him goodnight. He doesn't have a warm place. Joe is gentle loving to everyone, children and other dogs. Right now is he in Italy but can be adopted anywhere to the right loving home. Everyone should have a home!

Earlier on the blog, we wrote about the dog Moschino that was hit by a car, left with a broken leg and pelvis on the street. He was brought to a veterinarian by volunteers from Adcr Naples. AWL helped them finding a foster home, and wow Moschino got the best foster home ever. 

The Family Butt open their home and hearts for this little fellow. He got so much love, attention and therapy during his stay (exercise and love, the best combo)

Kathryn, its people like you that makes our World look better. Your service, help and effort for this little guy is heart warming. Happy Tears!

Hard life, right?

I get to hang out with a gorgeous family

Even allowing me to be a  couch dog Not bad for being a former street dog, and....black dog.


Black dogs are very hard to adopt away. Shelters are full with black dogs so the joy was tremendous when the rescue group found a family up north.

I get to stay up late and watch tv. What a great life!

Thank you so much loving family Butt for opening your hearts for me, giving me a chance in life to find true happiness.

HELP JUMBO FROM ENDING UP IN A CAGE

 Urgent please this is urgent. Never would we have thought this would happen.

Remember we talked about the happy Church dogs? 2 female that AWL had spayed and rescued all the puppies, and then a male turned up Jumbo that loved the girls and they loved him. They lived happy there together, the church people gave them food and love and AWL medications. 

Today we received the tragic news that they got a new Pries and he does not want the dogs there. He will call the police!!!! We know what that means. Horrible shelter and never coming out again.
The two female are safe to a home but we have Jumbo.

He is a young male, full of love and we need a home or a foster right away. This is the sweetest thing ever.

We will help with all costs if you can help us take him away from the fact that he will end up behind bars.

He is a happy stray. I have met him.

 MY DOGS ARE MY MINI-BUDDHISTS

Living with former stray dogs is a wonderful learning experience. For several years I have followed individual street dogs or families groups among the strays.  The sense of freedom I feel with them is a kind of independence, as in constant meditation!

For me, stray dogs are my mini- Buddhists. They teach me a lot about being in touch with the present.  I am their student, invited to take part in the school of life.  Street dogs have no expectations!  And so, they have no disappointments.  Expectations are something I wrestle with in many different situations. Stay dogs are unconditional love.  I often try to love unconditionally.  In my “pack” of former strays, when we rest together during the day everything feels like fulfillment.  

Street dogs’ intuition is outstanding. They listen to their inner compass; their intuition is as a survival tool for them.  I practice with my own inner compass, to rely more on my intuition.  If they receive food, they are happy, content and satisfied.  They don’t seek to have more than they need.

Yet I still practice my desires, with dreams that I can strive for and share with fellow human beings.

When (stray) dogs are adopted, within two weeks they stop to use their internal compass.  In most cases they will be “reprogrammed " by their new owners, just as what happens with most children.  Children also drop their intuition, as they get older.  As adults and parents, we think for the children.  It is hard not to, they need our direction, guidance and experience to learn and grow.  Or so we tell ourselves.  The same things we do for most of the dogs.  We teach them the human language, which eventually replaces their inner knowledge, their intuition.  When we dare to rely as much on intuition as children and stray dogs do, we find our own divinity within our purpose and ourselves.  We can learn and teach out our knowledge and have more compassion. To find a balance with the inner knowledge and to dare share the wisdom together with our community. Close your eyes!  Do not look at who's coming with a wisdom message for you, but listen and the book of knowledge opens up in your mind.

We do not know who our teachers are! Let your expectations vanish and open your heart to your inner compass.  I thank my mini- Buddhists for this life's wisdom.  They have a free mind without an ego, such that I aspire to myself.

I'm trying to remember what my soul already knows.

GRACIE IS WONDERING ~ WHEN WILL YOU ADOPT ME?

 UP FOR ADOPTION VIA AWL Gracie is a medium sized dog she weighs about 30 lbs. She is about 2 and a half years old. Gracie is up to date on all her shots and she is spayed. She is great with kids and very playful. Gracie is crate trained and house trained. Right now is Gracie  in a foster home and she loves to run but unfortunately the family dont have the space ( apartment) She isn't real keen on stray cats but have been introduced -- lately-- to cats while she was on a leash and she didnt mind. 

She will come with her crate, toys and food. Gracie was rescued from a family that had her in a kennel most of her life/muzzeled. 

She still is not arfaid of her kennel and is not the average "Naples" dog she is easy to train and sweet.

MULLET IS SEARCHING FOR HIS HOME

 This is MULLET! He is a very happy self going stray that loves people, children and don't mind other dogs. But, Mullet is being chased by the dog catchers and will soon be caught and put in a cage in the horrible shelters. Never come out again, lack of food and medicines and.....he will sit in this cage up to 15 years.

Mullet is out hiking with some boys and he loves to be part of a family. He has a great personality super sweet and easy. He is middle age and a small dog. We will have him neutered and passport ready if you can promise him a forever home.

Life in Garbage

On our way home from the shelter we stopped by the dog that lives among glass and garbage near the lake. There used to be three from the beginning, but two got killed.
Someone has recently been cruel to this beautiful girl. Normally, she would happily come to anyone for some petting and treats. This day, she would only come up to me, scared towards the others. She is so gentle and loving --- last night my worries were (are) big for her, she deserves a better life. Please help me!
She is sterilized and we will pay for the de-worming and health tests, we need a foster or forever home for her quickly!

Who's the Most Stupid? Chi è il più stupido?

(Anche in Italiano)

A family had adopted a beautiful little stray dog. She was very sensitive and had probably been abused. As with many dogs with a rough past this one had som kind off anxiety and different (small) kinds of behavior issues. This little dog chewed on everything she could get her paws on.

For an owner this could be annoying but as with little children that break things or paint on the wall, animals can also “break things”. There are ways to have them stop and to adjust their bad habits.
This owner had his own way—and it didn’t work at all—one day did the dog chew on one of his boots.
The man took the other boot and tied it around the young dog’s neck. For several hours the puppy had to walk around with the boot tied around her neck.

The easiest way for the owner was to say later that the dog was so stupid—the man said, “there are stupid dogs like there are stupid people”.
The owner took the easy way out, giving the dog to a shelter and saying that it was a stupid dog.
I do wonder what category he put himself in?

Una famiglia ha adottato un bellissimo piccolo cane randagio. Era molto sensibile e probabilmente era stata maltrattata. Come molti cani con un turbolento passato era ansiosa e aveva tipi differenti di comportamento problematico. Questa piccola cagnetta masticava tutto quello che le capitava sotto i denti.

Per un padrone questo potrebbe essere fastidioso ma come con i bambini piccoli che rompono cose e scarabbocchiano sulle pareti, anche gli animali possono "rompere cose". Ci sono modi per farli smettere e cambiare le loro brutte abitudini. Questo padrone aveva un modo tutto suo-e non funzionava affatto-un giorno il cane masticò uno dei suoi stivali. L'uomo prese l'altro stivale e lo strinse attorno al collo del cane.

Per diverse ore il cucciolo ha dovuto camminare con lo stivale stretto intorno al collo. Il modo più facile per il padrone era quello di dire dopo che il cane era stupido_l'uomo disse, "ci sono cani stupidi come ci sono persone stupide". Il padrone scelse una strada facile, portando il cane a un canile dicendo che era un cane stupido.

Io mi domando in quale categoria lu si inserisce?
