DUTCH MILITARY COMMUNITY DONATION TO AWL

I have to tell you the whole story. My phone rang at 20.30 one evening and I had had a horrible day with a lot of hard work and difficult cases and difficult people to deal with. I looked at the phone and it said "Barbara German Shepherds" This was a Dutch family that had adopted 2 puppies from us several weeks ago. In my negative mind at that moment I thought, "gosh they don't want the puppies anymore."

The phone rang again, I took it and answered thinking "better to deal with it now than tomorrow".

I heard this glad voice telling me how wonderful the puppies were, and how they enjoyed them.

Now I was clueless. 'Can we, the Dutch Military Community, come by the hospice?. We have a check to you for 600 euros!" You see, each nation's contingent earns money at the annual International Bazaar by selling food, drinks or other culturally-unique items, and then donate the proceeds it to a worthy cause. The Dutch contingent thought Animals Without Limits, and our hospice, was just such a worthy cause.

What a great ending of a rough day! I was floating on clouds. Thank you so much Dutch Military community for bringing such a wonderful early Christmas gift to the Hospice "Casa della Amore"

In honor of the donation, we had a little bit of bubbles, and the four legged oldies thought it was fun with so much attention and love.

I have always seen these kinds of big checks in magazines and on TV, and always thought it would be wonderful to hold one. And let me tell you, it was wonderful.

Showing our Memorial Wall of past clients that now play at the Rainbow bridge.

Thank you beautiful, warmhearted, JP, Barbara, Tiko del Rojj, Hans Stuij, Dita Bergwerff, Freya van Engelen. And of course the whole Dutch Military Community. Thanks for all the Amore.

(And the dog food that you also brought with you)

PICTURES FROM DOG WALK WASH SHELTER LAST SUNDAY

Look at this beauty, she loved it. By the way, this female is so calm and well behaved and she is up for adoption. The family doesn't want her. If we didn't have 17 dogs I would take her in a heart-beat. She is the most wonderful, well behaved kind dog I ever met.
Anna and Cindy did a good job washing dogs, some didn't want to at first but afterwards they felt great.

This "little" one didn't want to walk up to the bath tub.

The whole team helping out, and calm well behaved children join too.

Another bath.....

Megan and Stumpy, he was so in love with Megan it was heart-breaking watching. Since we knew that Megan and Tracey "only" were here for a couple of days volunteering. Stumpy from a past blog that ate his tail and AWL rescued him from bleeding to death. Look at him!
Also a wonderful spirit.

Brett and Nate were the great dog walkers. We were so amazed over how many dogs they got to walk, and after every walk they brushed the dog before putting him in. We were amazed.

This little one was found by Angela. He came walking on a very busy street in this condition, nearly being hit by trucks. We named him Fiore since we think he looks like a flower that with the right medicine and love, will soon bloom. We need help with donations to make that become reality.

Tracey and Megan flew in a couple of days from the States to help out. Stumpy was so in Amore heaven.

Here they come Anna and Cindy, super volunteers that had the day before collected money on Base and then bought dog food that they brought with them. That's Amore
Thank you all again...you made such a difference ...gave us smiles and the dogs hope. It was a very good day.
Mark, Brett, Nate, Cindy, Anna, Megan, Tracey, Angela with family, Olivia....fantastic Amore.

PLEASE HELP WITH FOOD DONATION

After a month of hard research where I have visited many horrible shelters, some with up to 500 dogs in them, we now have our next focus/project. It is a nightmare: many are old, many are sick and many are begging to get out. Several of these shelters, or portions of them at least, are housing animals on behalf of the government, but the agency won’t pay the money for food and medicine for the dogs. According to the operators, they (government agency) claim they don’t have any money. The dogs are suffering yet according to the law they are not allowed to be euthanized.

AWL really needs your help now! We have decided to help one shelter this summer. This one in particular will not have any food for their 400 dogs. They are in debt at the dog-food dealer, who won’t extend any more food on credit to them. Without your help, these dogs will starve!
Click here to watch the video from February

Please arrange a food collection at your work, school or social group here in Campania. One person can send out this email and add his/her room and contact information. Let us know who is collecting and where, and we will arranged pick up from you next Friday, with delivery directly to the shelter You can also make a donation and we will buy the food. (http://www.animalswithoutlimits.com/ )

You can read more about it at http://animalswithoutlimits.blogspot.com/2010/05/cry-for-help-visiting-new-to-us-shelter.html
I thank Admiral David and Ylva Mercer (not related to me) for their generous donation, and Vania Lamanna at Support Site who is undertaking a big food drive through her network of friends and associates.

Thank you for helping us helping those who don’t have a voice.

LOVELY AMORE DAY

Marie (UK) had told me about the puppies in Lago Patria and today I went with her to have a look at them and feed them. To my wonderful surprise their mother is the one I fed in Varcaturo for 2 years and then she disappeared. Happy to see she was doing well--and her puppies!
Then we drove to the NEX warehouse on Base to collect some dog food donations and cat food too. The cat food I gave to Lynn (UK) who is the Varcaturo cat lady. And the dog food we will drive to a new shelter this up coming Saturday.
(AWL Sweden left Italy on a bus to Sweden yesterday--what an adventure! Thank you for everything)

SATURDAY MISSION

Last Friday picked up another big food donation from NAVY BASE NEX. We are so grateful to you all involved.
Saturday we drove out to St Francesco Shelter with 500 dogs and some puppies to Olivia's and Max big joy. They were so happy for all the bags of dog food, thank you so much.
Max and Olivia were not happy when asked to put the puppies down. And boy, did they run around petting and playing with all the dogs. I had a hard time keeping up. They loved it.

After wards we went to Lega Pro Animale to pick up Rose and Cody who had been spayed.
And Todd walked Athena and Bella while I was roaming around after Max and Olivia again...they roaming after all the cats and buffalo's. What an amore day.

DOGFOOD DONATIONAND OTHER SMALL THINGS

Lindy and David worked on a small project, getting a storage together.
Yvonne and Mark gave some dogs exercise in the beautiful weather.

Olivia and Martina was holding a new sweet gentle Husky.

Phillipo got a new friend. She was left behind in an empty house when the person moved out. She is young but according to Yvonne is she really a good girl.

AMORE PER VOI

This lady you have read about in several of my blogs. She is AWL volunteer, works for all animals, and have become a dear friend. This lady has a big animal heart, and she is out every day rescuing and feeding and assiting AWL. She is stubborn --- positive stubborn --- and won't let anything go away. I loved it once when she said; "I am allowed to complain, I am at least doing something" She is so right!

We had all heard about expired dog food that was thown away, and we nearly cried. We were so horrified that strays and shelter dogs were starving and here we threw away still good food. Jackie got a phone number to a person on base, it took her several weeks (different reasons, away on working trips, etc) until she got hold of him. No he wasn't the one to talk to. Frustrated she did research and stubbornly on the phone, she worked a fantastic cause. The payoff: The other day, we got an email that AWL could come and get 3 pallets of dog food!
Anna is another warm hearted animal friend that also does alot for the animals here. Wonderful Anna sent us the email about the dog food, and she alsways talks so warmly about AWL. That's Amore, Anna.
I could nearly not see out from my SUV --- it's full great food.

Tears in my eyes when the truck rolled bag after bag of dog food. I cannot wait to deliver this to the shelters. And to the strays roaming around on the streets.

My SUV was nearly landing on its butt with all the heavy bags! But what a thrill, my heart was pounding, and I couldn't stop kissing Anna on her cheeks (She wanted to go and have lunch.)

Jackie, what an animal trooper you are, Anna thanks for helping us so much, and to the people behind the scene...I know who you are and AWL's Amore to you are enormous. THANK YOU

FANTASTIC DAY

Our AWL Handy Mandies --Eric & Darren--did fantastic work today, they built a washing platform so we don't have to stay in the muddy mess cleaning the dogs in the future. Great work!
AWL --Keegan--Lindy--Mia--could today de-worm 60 dogs. We rolled Swedish meatballs that went down in a heartbeat. Thanks to all your donations we can keep many dogs healthy, and life will become easier for them.

Our great AWL Jackie was put in the puppy section. A mother was abandoned with a lot of puppies. Jackie made sure everything was clean and made their beds warm and nice with fluffy blankets. First mommy dog wanted to bite Jackie, but Jackie knows with some ground beef she had the Mommy's heart and trust. Great work Jackie.

We hope we can give these sweeties a good start in life, to become strong and healthy.

The last 10 bags of dog food was carried in--the donation from the nice lady Mitra up in Rome. 220 kg donation...so many stomachs to fill. Thank you Mitra.
I saw that AWL Lindy came with a bag of dog food, thank you Lindy for today, you are great.
Thank you all for a fantastic day, building, cleaning, walking and medicating.

WHAT A WOMAN FROM UPER NORTH

Mitra sent me an e mail telling me she wanted to visit me with a present.

And oh my dear it was a fantastic, heartwarming gift for AWL to drive out to Rossella Shelter with it. I was speechless.

This woman is full of life, guts and heart. AWL is so grateful for what she did together with her boyfriend. They drove down from Rome with 210 kg (500lbs) dog food, boxes of dog treats, many bottles of shampoo, cleaning detergent, sponges --- lots of things we always need on our cleaning missions. It was amazing!
The whole day had rained and all our dogs were so happy to see them, they could sense true animal friends with pockets full of treats. Mitra had even baked a Swedish (my favorite) kladd kaka--moist chocolate cake.

A very sensitive woman who stayed for one hour, they carried all the things down to our basement and then thanked me, for what we are doing! Holly Molly what a person--AWL thanks you so much for your fantastic self-generated contribution to help us make it happen. We love you!
